ANKENY – An Iowa man faces serious charges after gun threats at various locations.
On Sunday, February 20 at roughly 10:40 p.m., Ankeny police were dispatched to Casey’s at 1602 W. 1st St. in response to a shooting.
The caller reported their vehicle had just been shot while trying to leave 1901 W. 1st St. and they identified the shooter as Max Kragel. The victims reported they had been at Kragel’s apartment visiting a friend when Kragel, who was armed with a handgun, threatened to shoot them. As they went to their car in an attempt to leave, Kragel emerged from the building and shot one round from a handgun, striking their vehicle. Officers’ reports indicated a bullet hole in the hood of the victim’s vehicle.
Through an investigation it was determined Kragel was also in possession of a car reported stolen in Ankeny a few days earlier and had threatened an employee at Good Times (1912 SW 3rd St. – local bar) earlier in the evening. Additionally, Kragel was wanted for Going Armed with Intent, Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon and Harassment 1st from an incident on Saturday night at Good Times.
Officers located Kragel in his apartment and he was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Polk Co. Jail.

Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (2 counts) – IA Code 708.6 – C Felony
Domestic Assault while displaying a Weapon – IA Code 708.2A (2)(c) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
Theft 2nd – IA Code 714.2 (2) – D Felony
Felon in Possession of a Weapon – IA Code 724.26 (1) – D Felony
Harassment 1st degree (2 counts) – IA Code 708.7 (2) – Aggravated Misdemeanor
Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon – IA Code 708.2 (3)
Going Armed with Intent – IA Code 708.8 – D Felony
