COLUMBIA, Mo. – The fifth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones defeated No. 9 Missouri 17-16 Wednesday night at the Hearnes Center, completing an undefeated Big 12 schedule. Iowa State went 8-0 in Big 12 duals on the year, while closing the dual portion of the schedule with a 15-1 overall record.
With the victory, the Cyclones won their 13th-straight dual match. The streak is the second longest in the nation. Iowa State returns to action on Sunday, hosting the Last Chance Open at Hilton Coliseum. Wrestling is set to begin at 10 a.m.
Missouri jumped out to a 3-0 lead, as No. 18 Noah Surtin defeated No. 18 Kysen Terukina 7-1. Iowa State quickly evened the match and took the lead with four-straight victories, starting with No. 27 Ramazan Attasauov at 133 pounds. Trailing 5-0 in the second period, Attasauov used a reversal with :47 left and a four-point nearfall with :06 left to take a 6-5 lead into the third period. With :31 left in the match, Attasauov used a reversal to lock up the 9-7 victory.
At 141 pounds, No. 5 Ian Parker earned a 10-2 major decision against Ethan Turner to give the Cyclones the lead. Parker earned a pair of takedowns in the first period and never trailed in the match. At 149 pounds. No. 21 Jarrett Degen defeated No. 22 Josh Edmond 9-7. Degen used a takedown with 1:29 left in the match to take the lead for good.
Defending National Champion David Carr added a 14-2 major decision at 157 pounds against No. 21 Jarrett Jacques. A takedown with 1:27 to go extended Carr’s lead to 9-2 before he added a four-point nearfall at the buzzer for the 14-2 victory. The win was the 50th-straight victory for Carr.
No. 2 Keegan O’Toole earned a 14-4 major decision over No. 31 Isaac Judge at 165 pounds, while No. 11 Peyton Mocco defeated No. 25 Joel Devine 9-6 at 174 pounds. No. 24 Jeremiah Kent downed No. 7 Marcus Coleman 10-7 at 184 pounds to cut the Cyclone lead to 14-13 with two matches remaining.
At 197 pounds, No. 13 Yonger Bastida was faced with No. 6 Rocky Elam. Elam led 4-0 with a minute to go in the match before Bastida recorded a takedown with :58 left. Bastida notched another takedown with :28 left and used stalling calls on Elam with :09 and :01 left to send the match to sudden victory. Bastida wasted no time, recording a takedown with 1:49 left in sudden victory for the win, giving Iowa State a 17-13 lead. In the final match of the night, No. 19 Zach Elam defeated No. 21 Sam Schuyler 2-0.
