Former Mason City gymnastics coach faces March trial for sex abuse of minors

MASON CITY – A former Mason City gymnastics coach faces a March trial for the sex abuse of minors, and a local judge known for going easy on molesters has been involved in the case.

Douglas Hagenow, age 53, has been charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 12 and 13. The charges were filed on November 4, 2021, and Hagenow has been in the Cerro Gordo county jail ever since. He has been president of Active Kids Gymnastics in Mason City for years.

Hagenow now awaits a March 8, 2022 trial. A pre-trial conference has been scheduled for February 22.

Ominously, Rustin Davenport has been once of the judges involved in this case. He let a Mason City woman off with probation for molesting a child under 3 years of age back in 2018, then did it again last year when he gave another child molester suspended prison sentences and probation for his crimes.
