College Wrestling: Cyclones remain unbeaten in the Big 12 with 27-12 win over Air Force

AMES – No. 5 Iowa State (13-1, 6-0 Big 12) defeated Air Force (2-6, 0-6), 27-12, Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum, as the Cyclones remain unbeaten in conference matches. The victory was the 11th-straight dual win, the second longest streak in the country.

Two of ISU’s top wrestlers (No. 1 David Carr, 157 pounds; No. 9 Ian Parker, 149 pounds) had the afternoon off, as Charlie Klepps (141) and Andrew Flora (157) received mat-time opportunities at those respective weights.

The Cyclones won seven of 10 matches and claimed the takedown competition, 20-7.

Isaac Judge was victorious at 165 pounds over Trey Brisker to begin the match with a 4-3 decision. Judge’s late second-period takedown was the difference.

Joel Devine won a narrow 3-2 decision over Sam Wolf at 174 pounds. Devine posted a first-period takedown and rode out Wolf to the end of the frame.

Marcus Coleman tallied his second fall of the weekend with a pin over Jake Thompson in 5:52 in the 184-pound match. Yonger Bastida then followed with a technical fall (21-6) victory at 197 pounds vs. Kayne Hutchinson. Bastida had seven takedowns, a four-point nearfall and a two-point nearfall in his dominating performance.

Kysen Terukina roared back from a 6-2 deficit to win the 125-pound match, 8-6, over Jared Van Vleet. Down by four points, a pair of escapes and two stalling points tied the match late in the third period. Terukina secured the win with a takedown with two seconds remaining in the match.

Ramazan Attasauov won 9-2 over Sidney Flores at 133 pounds and senior Jarrett Degen major decisioned (11-3) Dylan Martinez in the 149-pound bout behind four takedowns.
