MASON CITY – Two out-of-state men were busted with a large quantity of meth and fentanyl after fleeing a traffic stop in Mason City early Friday morning.
At about 1:57 AM on Friday, February 4, a Cerro Gordo county deputy attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of 4th Street SW and South Taft Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ethan Jacob Longie, 28, of Bismarck, North Dakota, fled and a vehicle pursuit began. Deputies pursued Longie in the Southwest area of Mason City and onto 19th Street SW. Longie was stopped and arrested without further incident near 19th Street SW and S Eisenhower Ave. Deputies discovered that Longie had an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the US Marshals for Federal Probation Violation regarding a prior weapon offense. The passenger, Shawn Alan Rodriguez Young, 27, of St. Paul, Minnesota, was found to have a valid arrest warrant for probation violation regarding drugs 1st degree out of Minnesota. Both were arrested and transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail. During a search of the vehicle, multiple items of narcotics were located, including suspected fentanyl and a large quantity of methamphetamine. Both Longie and Rodriguez Young are charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a class B Felony. Longie was also charged with possession of marijuana, possession of fentanyl, eluding, expired registration, and fail to affix a drug tax stamp. Rodriguez Young was also charged with possession of marijuana. Both are being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Deputies were assisted in the pursuit by Mason City Police.
