Phil Swanson, the son of Dewey and Bessie (Mueller) Swanson was born on September 21, 1931, in Lexington, Nebraska. He died on January 22, 2022, at Aspire Nursing and Rehab in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 90 years.
Phil graduated from San Mateo High School in California before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he worked with gas and diesel engines and steam propulsion. Phil lived throughout the western United States during WWII and afterwards attended 14 different schools. He worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company (now known as Lockheed Martin) in Sunnyvale, CA for 32 years.
He was united in marriage to Gloria Baines on November 11, 1963. She passed away on October 7, 1992.
Phil moved to Estherville in 1993 and married Myrna Hagedorn on December 11th of that year.
He was a member of the Baptist church for many years and became a member of First Christian Church in 2004.
Left to cherish Phil’s memory are his wife, Myrna Swanson, Estherville; his children, Kelly Swanson, San Jose, CA, and Karen (Nick) Hendryk, Felton, CA; his stepsons, Steve (Harriet) Hagedorn, Two Harbors, MN and Rod Hagedorn, Burnsville, MN; his grandchildren, Alex, Sofia and Conor, and brother, Dan (Dana) Swanson of West Lake Village, California.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Thelma Kane, Clarabel Swany-Reed, Delmar Swanson, and his first wife, Gloria Baines Swanson.
