CLEAR LAKE – A barroom confrontation in downtown Clear Lake between two men goaded one to lurk outside the booze hall for the other, leading to an assault and an arrest.

Clear Lake police were called to Rookies Bar in downtown Clear Lake just after midnight on January 16, 2022 after an altercation between two men. According to a police report, 29-year-old Seth Charles Smith of Clear Lake was asked to leave by the bar staff. Smith waited outside and the victim was in fear of being assaulted and asked to be escorted to his wife’s vehicle. When the victim went outside with his hands in his pockets, Smith approached and feinted a strike toward the victim and then struck the victim with a closed fist of his right hand in the victim’s left shoulder/neck area. The victim pulled out his phone to call police and Smith left the area.

Smith was arrested by Clear Lake police on a charge of assault, a simple misdemeanor, and jailed. The Cerro Gordo county jail forgot or neglected to take his jail photo, NIT is informed. Smith posted a cash bond and was released.

  1. His picture wasn’t taken?? The next article will probably say that the paperwork is missing. And the next article will be the victim decides not to press charges. Kudos to the cerro gordo county jail. You really know how to do your job.
