CEDAR FALLS – The UNI Swim and Dive team trail Illinois State, 104-84, to end the first day of competition for the first dual meet of the New Year.
The dual meet started with the 3-meter dive competition where Taylor Hogan finished in second place with 264.45 points after diving with the highest degree of difficulty among all divers. Maddie Moran took fourth place with a score of 214.58 points.
UNI finished in second place in both the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Amber Finke, Mia Savicevic, Scout Bergwall, and Faith Larsen raced the 400 Medley Relay in 3:59.15, finishing nine seconds behind the suited Redbirds.
Lily Ernst recorded a swift first-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:38.81, leading from start to finish. Faith Larsen also recorded a first-place victory with a race of 24.23 in the 50 Freestyle. Abbie Bangs recorded a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle, just narrowly behind the first place Redbird. Ernst also recorded a second-place finish in the 200 Fly in 2:06.69.
Finke (57.00), Abby McCorkle (59.43), and Payton Hall (59.45) dominated in the 100 Backstroke recording top-three finishes. Bangs claimed first in the 100 Freestyle with a 10:48.67 after charging to the lead over the final 200.
The Panthers and the Redbirds meet again Saturday morning to finish the two-day dual. The 1-meter dive will start the meet at 9:45 a.m. with a Senior Ceremony following the final dive and swimming to follow. Fans can follow along on Meet Mobile.
