Bonnie Lucille Abbas – age 85, of Humboldt, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 107 North 4th Street, Humboldt, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Inurnment will take place at Union Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church. Bonnie Lucille Brownfield was born July 29, 1936, near Humboldt, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Zula (Smith) Brownfield. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955. Bonnie married Vernon Abbas March 26, 1995, and they made their home in Humboldt. Bonnie worked most of her life as a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed playing cards, camping, traveling, decorating and baking cookies for the holidays, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and spoiling her dog Candy.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie (Reed) Dowling of West Des Moines; son, Brian (Lisa) Nelson of Dakota City; daughter, Brenda (Tom) Mersch of Humboldt; step-daughter, Twila (Gregg) Carlson of Madrid; granddaughters, Cathy (Jason) Vincent, Johnnie (Austin) Tysklind, Jessi (Jered) Eveland, Amanda (Marcus) Stump, Madison Carlson; grandsons, Danny (Nita) Grause, Matt (Emily) Grause, Wyatt (Amy) Dowling, Wade (Kristine) Dowling, Christopher Mersch, Jeramy (Kelsey) Mersch, Aaron Mersch, Jonathan Nelson; 21 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Joiner, brother, James Brownfield, son-in-law Dan Grause as well as other relatives and friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Abbas (who passed away October 23, 2021); daughter Cindy Grause; grandson Alex Nelson; great-grandson Matias Stump; sisters, Kathleen Grauman, Mary Loomis, Pauline Butler, Hazel Reinholtz, Dorothy Gates, Delores Knight, Josephine Day and her brother Marvin Brownfield.
