OBIT: Janice Swartz

Janice A. Swartz, passed away on December 20, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 75. She was born on February 27, 1946, to Joseph August and Alice (Riggs) Haisman in Emmet County, Iowa.

Janice graduated from Armstrong High School, Estherville Junior College, and Mankato State University. She was a medical technologist for many years at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato. She spent 13 years as a housing manager for Country Neighbors Home, an assisted living home in Mapleton, Minnesota. On September 13, 1969, she was united in marriage to Richard Swartz at the Armstrong Presbyterian Church.
Janice is a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church. She is a 58-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and is a past matron. She is a life member of the Girl Scouts of the USA. She served for many years as a Board Director in several positions on her council.

Janice enjoyed volunteer work tutoring at Mapleton High School. She spent many summers lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at the Armstrong Pool and served as Pool Manager. While in college, Janice swam on the Dolphin synchronized swim team. She enjoyed camping and spent many summers at Camp Foster on the Okobojis.

Janice treasured time spent with family and friends, especially her grandson, Ethan.
Janice is survived by her husband of 52 years Richard Swartz of Armstrong, her daughter Sarah (Erik) Olsen of Mankato, Minnesota, and her grandson Ethan Olsen.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Joseph Haisman.
