OBIT: Minnie Marie (Doss) Barz

Minnie Marie Barz,100, of Eldora, IA, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Eldora Specialty Care with her loving daughters by her side.

Funeral services for Minnie will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, IA, with Pastor Aaron Hambleton officiating. Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Minnie will be laid to rest at East Lawn Cemetery in Eldora. Memorial contributions may be directed in Minnie’s name to her family which will be later designated elsewhere. Minnie Marie (Doss) Barz was born December 11, 1921, near Buckeye, IA to Albert and Henrietta Doss. Minnie attended Hubbard School and later attended Eldora High School to take the Normal Training Course, graduating in 1940. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, now named UNI, in 1942 to complete her teaching certification.

Minnie taught for seven years in county schools in Hardin County. On December 1, 1946, she was united in marriage to Ernest Barz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Ernie and Minnie farmed east of Eldora on a family farm for 40 years. To this union were born four children: Melvin, Lois, Diane, and Bruce. Minnie loved gardening, raising flowers, quilting, sewing, and baking. She crocheted and knitted many afghans and made quilts for her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed working as a teacher associate at Eldora Elementary for 17 years. Minnie also taught Sunday School and confirmation classes at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her special joys were singing in the church choir and working with 4-H. After moving from the farm to town, she started new flower and vegetable gardens and volunteered in several Eldora community organizations.

Left to cherish her memory are: Melvin (Susie) Barz of Georgetown, TX, Lois (Dennis) Eige of Marshalltown, IA, Diane (Bruce) Clark of Waterloo, IA and Bruce (Mary) Barz of Hamilton, MT, eleven grandchildren: Shane and Elsie Barz, Darrin (Heather), Andrew and Christine Eige, Brett (Bobbie) Clark, Rachel (Marcus) Meeks, Kate (Jesse) Henderson, Amy Compton, Shannon (John) Sanden, and Megan Barz, one sister Pauline (Kenneth Barz, eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, her parents, a sister and three brothers.
