OBIT: Johnnie “John” Heinz

Johnnie “John” Heinz, 96, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 peacefully in his sleep at home.

According to his wishes there will be a private family memorial service at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City in the summer of 2022.

Johnnie “John” Mark Heinz, the son of Matt and Minnie (Marzen) Heinz, was born June 29, 1925 on the family farm. He received his education in the Charles City country schools through 8th grade and continued helping on the family farm when he was finished. John wanted to serve his country during World War II, but since he was the only son in his family the government would not allow it.

John was united in marriage to Alice Miller on June 27, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville. This union of 58 years was blessed with four children: Sheryel, Sandra, Steve and Scott.

John loved farming and working the land. He also raised cattle for 85 years. John was able to operate the combine (Case IH was the only way to go according to John) for this last fall’s harvest (2021) continuing to do what he loved until God called him home.

John enjoyed all of the fishing trips that he took to Northern Minnesota with his wife, family and friends. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Moose and active with 4-H while growing up (followed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and soon his great-great-grandchildren). John loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who loved him.

Living family members include his children: Sheryel (David) Wetherell of Orchard, Sandra (Duane) Jaeger of Charles City and Scott (Janit) Heinz of Charles City; seven grandchildren: Curt (Jill) Wetherell, Raina (James) Roll, Kerry (Jeff) Crooks, Troy (Dara) Jaeger, Michael (Tricia) Jaeger, Samantha (Brad) Ritter and Jon (Jaynie) Heinz; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; significant other, Faye Johnson; sister-in-law, Kathleen Schempf; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice in 2004; son, Steve; and two sisters: Helen Koebrick and Kathryn Staudt.
