NIACC’s Hames earns ICCAC women’s basketball player of week honor

MASON CITY – For the second straight week, a NIACC women’s basketball player has been honored as the ICCAC player of the week.

NIACC’s Alyssa Hames was selected as the co-ICCAC Division II women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Dec. 6.12. Last week, NIACC’s Ziyannah Conner won the award for the week of Nov. 29-Dec.5.

Hames, a 5-10 freshman from Ackley, scored 13 points with a career-high 21 rebounds and seven assists in the Trojans’ 95-67 victory over Marshalltown CC on Dec. 11. The 21 rebounds ranks third on NIACC’s single-game rebounding list and is the most-ever in a game by a NIACC player in an ICCAC contest.

Against Iowa Western on Dec. 8, Hames scored four points and grabbed six rebounds.

Hames averages 11.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game.

NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against No. 1 Kirkwood. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
