Sheriff conducts tobacco sting at North Iowa grocery store, issues citation to young wage-earner

WEST BEND – A sheriff conducted a tobacco sting at a North Iowa grocery store, and issued a citation to a young wage-earner.

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 2:51 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a tobacco compliance check on Kampen Foods at 113 South Broadway Street, West Bend as a part of the I-PLEDGE program. The compliance check resulted in an illegal sale of tobacco to a person under the legal age. Following the compliance check, 22-year-old Joshua Potthoff of West Bend was issued a citation for employee providing tobacco product to person under 21, which is a simple misdemeanor.

As a result Potthoff paid $210.25 in fines, court costs and fees.

too bad it wasn’t California…he would of walked

BETTER FOR OUR BRAVE POLICE OFFICERS TO BE STOPPING MINORS FROM BUYING CIGARETTS THEN TO BE OUT FIGHTING ILLEGAL DRUGS, STEALING, VANDALISM, CHILD ABUSE. WOULD REALLY HATE FOR THEM TO BE DOING SOMETHING WORTHWHILE AND POSSIBLE DANGEROUS. AFTER ALL, WE, THE PUBLIC, GET WHAT WE PAY FOR, RIGHT? IF WE WANTED COPS WHO DID SOMETHING, WE WOULD PAY FOR QUALITY OFFICERS.

THANK GOD FOR OUR BRAVE POLICE OFFICERS! THEY ARE KEEPPING US SAFE FROM THE DANGERS OF PEOPLE BUYING AND THEN SMOKING CIGARRETTES!

I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT YOUNG JOSHUA LEARNS A VALUABLE LESSON FROM THIS AND DOESN”T REE_OFFEND INTO A LIFE OF CRIME>
