OBIT: Marlyn Quastad

Marlyn Quastad, son of Adolph and Regina (Carson) Quastad, was born at home in Armstrong, Iowa on February 3, 1933. He passed away at his home in Armstrong, Iowa on November 22, 2021, at age 88.

Marlyn completed school through the 8th grade in Armstrong. Marlyn worked at Thiel’s Gas Station and the Armstrong Sales Barn. In 1953, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he was a crane shovel operator. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Burgeson on June 23, 1956, at First Baptist Church in Swea City. The couple made their home in rural Armstrong. Marlyn began farming and worked at Art’s Way Manufacturing. He designed and built Aerial Lifts. He also was a mechanic for Rohlin Construction, later repairing terragators and semis. In his later years, he trimmed trees.

He was a member of the former Armstrong Free Methodist Church and currently attended Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church. Marlyn enjoyed raising black angus cattle, inventing things, and reading his Bible.

Marlyn is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Burgeson) Quastad of Armstrong, his children: Marjean (Daniel) Claassen of Blue Ridge, TX; Revadean Quastad of Armstrong; Mervyn (Paula) Quastad of Inman, KS; Neal (Alyce) Quastad of Marshalltown, IA; Laureen (Terry) Pfannenstiel of Vienna, Austria; Karleen Quastad of Armstrong; Mark Quastad of McPherson, KS; Alyssa (Jason) Danner of Fairmont, MN; and Lanita (Brian) Kasiska of The Hague, Netherlands; and his daughter-in-law Julie Quastad-Tanner of Wichita, KS. He is also survived by his 20 grandchildren: Brionne, Grant, Carinda, Kent, Andrea, Jana, Lorrinda, Dara, Jarrod, Bryce, Travis, Paige, Shareah, Kristen, Kyle, Emily, Grace, Tessa, Brett, and Christian; and 17 great-grandchildren: Ashley, Rollie, Carsten, Addie, Owen, Emmet, Lilah, Elijah, Ian, Ana, Caleb, Kayla, Kennedy, Quinten, Logan, Leo, and Wylder. He will be missed by his siblings: Max (Orma) Quastad of Armstrong, Kathleen (Linwood) Parker of Virginia Beach, VA, and Karen (Richard) Dreyer of Bella Vista, AR.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Regina (Carson) Quastad; his son Kim Quastad; brothers-in-law Merlin, Walter, and Donald Burgeson, Dennis Larson; and sisters-in-law Emmy Burgeson and Joan Burgeson.
