Improperly discarded ashes cause Mason City house fire and evacuation

MASON CITY – Improperly discarded ashes caused a Mason City house fire and evacuation of the structure.

On November 10,2021 at 7:20 am the Mason City Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 927 N Polk Ave, Mason City.  The Mason City fire department says smoke was showing from the house and the occupants had safely exited the structure when the Mason City Fire Department arrived on scene. Fire Department staff was able to extinguish the fire, preventing further damage to the home.

Investigation by Fire Department Officials found improperly discarded ashes placed next to the house as the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The deed holder on the house is Ronald and Karen Knudtson, and the contract holder is Wayne and Kimberly Hull, records show.
