College Basketball: UNI signs Cedar Falls’ Trey Campbell

CEDAR FALLS – UNI men’s basketball has announced the signing of Trey Campbell, a point guard out of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

“We are adding a tremendous young man to our program today! Trey plays the game with terrific pace, great timing and a high level of skill,” said head coach Ben Jacobson. “His ability to make the game easier for teammates is one of his best qualities and one that we look forward to adding to our team. Trey also has become a guy who can score at all three levels. He’s continually improved as a basketball player while competing year round in football and track as well. Trey has done a lot of winning at Cedar Falls High School, and we are fortunate to be adding him and his family today.”

As a high school junior in the 2020-21 season, Campbell earned second team all-state honors and was named to the all-conference and all-metro first teams. He also grabbed a spot on the all-substate (region) team.

Campbell has helped lead Cedar Falls High School to the semifinals of the Iowa High School state tournament the last two years as the starting point guard. He’s 6-feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.

Campbell is a team captain who averaged 14 points per game, five assists per game and five rebounds per game last year. He compiled a 5:1.3 assist to turnover ratio.
Other shooting stats:
Field goals: 53.5%
3-point shots: 39%
Free throws: 77%
Effective field goal: 59%
Campbell is a three-sport student-athlete, competing in football as a wide receiver, basketball and in track and field.

He was on the state high school playoff football team each of the past two years. He was on the state-winning distance medley relay team when Cedar Falls took the team title at the high school state championships in 2021.

UNI currently has three other former Cedar Falls High School players who are the products of current varsity coach Ryan Schultz. Campbell will be joining junior AJ Green and former teammates Chase Courbat and Landon Wolf, both freshmen.

Campbell is the son of Terrance and Kici Campbell.
