Marlys Wiemers, age 91 of Gilmore City, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at her home in Gilmore City. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City. Burial will take place at Marble Valley Cemetery in Gilmore City. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Gilmore City. Lentz Funeral Home of Gilmore City is assisting the family. www.lentzfuneralhome.com

Marlys Marie Wiemers was born on December 14, 1929 to Renke and Ella (Ricklefs) Gerdes in Palmer, Iowa. Marlys attended Manson Schools and graduated from Manson High School in 1948. On April 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Maynard Wiemers at Lizard Lutheran Church in Palmer, Iowa. Marlys was a devoted farm wife, mother and business owner. She and Maynard owned and operated Oaks Nursery in Gilmore City for many years.

Marlys was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City and the Legion Auxiliary. She loved polka dancing, camping on the Mississippi, flowers and gardening.

Left to cherish Marlys’ memory are her husband of 69 years, Maynard of Gilmore City; son, Steven (Deni) Wiemers of Gilmore City; daughter, Barb Kirkpatrick of Calmar; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; two great great step grandchildren; brother-in-law, Denzil Wiemers of Humboldt; sister-in-law, Jeanette Gerdes of Fort Dodge and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant sisters; brothers, Elmer Gerdes and Don Gerdes and sister-in-law, Donna Wiemers.
