OBIT: Marion E. Casey

A funeral service for Marion Casey, 88, of Lu Verne, will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Algona VFW and American Legion. His family will greet friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with a scripture prayer service beginning at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion Casey Memorial Fund which will be directed to charities special to the family.

Marion Earl Casey son of Robert and Mary (Schmidt) Casey was born September 24, 1933, on a farm south of Algona. He moved with his family at a young age to a farm in the Lu Verne area where he attended a rural country school and graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1951. On April 19, 1955, he married Helen Elbert at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore.

Marion was drafted into the United States Navy in November of 1955 and served aboard the USS Union based out of the harbor of San Diego, CA until August 1957. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to the Lu Verne area to pursue his passion of farming. Marion continued to farm until the age of 87. He enjoyed snowmobiling out west, traveling, family, and being on the farm.

Marion Casey passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at the age of 88.

Marion is survived by his wife Helen of 66 years; daughters Virginia (Joseph) Foth of Algona, Deborah Casey- Shasky (Russell) of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon (Dave) Anderson of Ames, and Sheila (Keith) Kuecker of Algona; and son Galen (Jennifer Kahler) Casey of Irvington. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Jennifer (Mat) Manusharow, Benjamin Foth, Kimberly Anderson, Kristen Nations, Kurt (Liza) Kuecker, Kelsey (Alex) Elbert, Carter, and Allison and Sydney Casey; 8 great-grandchildren, John and Wyatt Manusharow, Avery, Camden, and Breckyn Nations, Kenzie and Kora Kuecker and Jack Elbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Eugene and Clarence and his granddaughter Heather Anderson White.
