Dean Budd, age 85 of Mallard, passed away Friday, October 15th at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 20th at Mallard United Methodist Church in Mallard. Burial will take place in the Rush Lake Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mallard American Legion Post #345. Visitation will be 9:30 AM until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Dean Michael Budd was born on October 10, 1936 to Harold and Marcella (Meyer) Budd in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He graduated from Plover High School in 1954. Upon graduation, Dean enlisted in the United States Army. In 1956 Dean was united in marriage to Janice King. The couple lived on a farm north of Mallard where Dean was able to pursue his passion of farming. After Dean and Janice decided to cash rent their land, Dean stayed very active working at local hog confinements and Jack Links. You would often find him working in his yard and tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. Dean was a very devoted member to the Mallard United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Dean’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Janice; son, Dennis Budd (Belle Budd) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Cayden Budd and Kinsley Budd of Sioux Falls; nieces and nephews – Julie, Lynn, Diane, and Alan Nettifee. Michael Budd, Karen Wolfenden Budd and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Daniel; sister Charlene, brothers, Russell “Buddy” Budd and Gordon Budd. Nephew Brian Nettifee, and niece Kathy Budd.
