Shirley Jean Ries, 81, of Rockwell, IA died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at MercyOne West Campus in Mason City after battling a lengthy illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am with a one hour prior visitation on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 305 Elm St E, Rockwell, IA. Father Josh Link will be officiating with inurnment to follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Shirley was born on May 12, 1940 in Rockwell to William and Sadie (Engels) DeRock. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwell. Shirley worked as a cook at the Rockwell Nursing Home for 35 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In her free time, Shirley enjoyed ceramics, word puzzles and watching NBA basketball. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: John (Lynette) Ries, Jim (Karen) Ries, Jerry Ries, Janine Ries and Janell Kelso; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Irene (Leon) Caspersen, Marilyn (Bob) Ermer and Dianne (Aaron) Cahalan Salling; special Aunt Grace Lonergan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jolene Ries; parents, William and Sadie DeRock; sister, Dorothy Cahill and one great-grandchild.
