OBIT: Ron Tirevold

Ronald Ray Tirevold, 79, of Alden, IA passed away on October 1st, 2021 at his family home in Alden following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services are pending with the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Ronald Ray Tirevold, 79, of Alden, IA passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2021 surrounded by family and friends in the family home he loved. He was the husband of Evelyn Tirevold (Palo Kolthoff Knapp). Married in 1980 in Alden, IA at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, they enjoyed 41 years together.

Born in Estherville, IA, he was the son of Raymond Tirevold and Marie Ahrens. Ron graduated from high school in Sherburn, MN. He worked his entire career maintaining and operating grain elevators throughout the MidWest. As an honored member of the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS), Ron and Evelyn travelled to conferences around the Nation to advance grain industry knowledge and information sharing through a network of global agriculture professionals. Ron concluded his working years, retiring from the Alden Co-Op Elevator as the Grain Supervisor in 2012.

Ron was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Missouri Synod, and actively served St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden, IA. Ron was a wrestler in his high school days and volunteered as a firefighter to support his local communities. An avid NASCAR fan, Ron enjoyed watching and attending the races with family and friends. Ron was regularly seen around town sporting black and gold while cheering for the Hawkeyes. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends, sharing hand-wrapped caramels, and grilling Ron’s Rockin’ Pork Chops. Ron could often be found volunteering his time throughout the community, leading to he and Evelyn being recognized as “Alden Citizens of the Year” in June 2021. His smile will leave a lasting impression on those he touched over the years.

Ron was the truest sense of a family man, and extremely proud of their accomplishments. His happiest moments revolved around joyous family gatherings. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Tirevold; children Lisa (Jim) Stanley, Todd (Shari) Tirevold, Kyle (Bridget) Kolthoff, Kent (Roberta) Kolthoff, and Troy Knapp; grandchildren Kollan (Kory) Kolthoff, Katie Kolthoff, Kallie Kolthoff, Kelsie Kolthoff, Ian Kolthoff, Anna Kolthoff, Preston (Caitlyn) Stanley, MaKenna Stanley, Sierra Stanley, Karigan Stanley, Tyler Tirevold, Abby Tirevold, and Sierra (Cale) Walter; and three great grandchildren Andrea, Owen and Amelia Walter; siblings Judy (Jim) Hybbert, John (Linda) Tirevold and Dale (Rhonda) Tirevold; and sister-in-law Norma (Andy) Anway. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Linda Palo, and daughter Krystal Kolthoff.
