Ames convenience store robbed as suspect flees with cash after macing employee

Casey’s convenience store in Ames, 428 Lincoln Way

AMES – An Ames convenience store was robbed as the suspect fled the store with cash after macing an employee.

On September 1, 2021, at 12:19 p.m., the Ames Police Department responded to a report of a robbery in the parking lot of Casey’s convenience store at 428 Lincoln Way. A store employee reported a male approached her as she was getting into her personal vehicle. The male demanded money and sprayed the employee with pepper spray. The male grabbed a store bank deposit from the employee and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The male was last seen running south from the area.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a tall skinny black male with a darker complexion. He was wearing a black mask, yellow safety vest, black long sleeve shirt, khaki pants, and white shoes.

The Ames Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
