OBIT: Joel Lynn Sasse

Joel Lynn Sasse, 48 of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Clear Lake Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave. N., with Rev. Dan Miller officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton, with military honors provided.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joel was born March 2, 1973, the son of August “Gus” and Margaret (Gerdes) Sasse in Mason City. He married LaBeth Sheldon on January 8, 1999, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City.

A graduate of Mason City High School, Joel enlisted in the United States Army and served in South Korea from 1992-1993, as well as Afghanistan from 2004-2005. He worked various jobs throughout his life, with his favorite being Mr. Mom to his children.

Joel was a member of the American Legion Post 278 in Osage and the American Legion Riders. He enjoyed fishing, shooting guns, caring for animals and following the Minnesota Vikings. He also loved riding his motorcycle with his wife.

Joel is survived by his wife, LaBeth Sasse of Thornton; children, Devlynn, AJ and Keagan Sasse; parents, Gus and Margaret Sasse; brothers, Robert (Kim) Sasse and Carl Sasse; step-brother, Robert Gerdes; many nieces and nephews; and several adopted children.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marshall and Ethel Nelson and Carl E. Sasse; and brother-in-law, Kevin Whipple.
