OBIT: Daniel “Boone” “Steely” Foxen

Daniel “Boone” Foxen passed away August 21, 2021 at the age of 57 in the University of Minnesota Medical Center, following complications related to a heart attack he suffered in May 2021.

A funeral Mass for Daniel Foxen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.

Visitation will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 and will continue one hour before the funeral Mass at the church on Thursday.

Born in Charles City, Iowa on May 1, 1964, Dan was a beloved son, a devoted father, and an amazing friend to many. He graduated from Charles City High School and received his Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Northern Iowa. Dan followed his passion for the outdoors to serve as a Park Ranger with the National Park Service at Mount Rainier in Washington, and at Everglades National Park in Florida. In later years, he returned to his native Charles City and worked at Foxen Floors, and also with MercyOne North Iowa Hospital in Mason City.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents: Gene and Ruth Wiltse and Matthew and Agnes Foxen. He is survived by his parents, Joe and Carole Foxen; his siblings: Joan Wildeboer and Tom Foxen; his special friend, Sara Buggs; and his five children: Ben, Bryce, Chase, Cassie, and Carson Foxen, to whom he passed his abiding love for cooking, nature, and all things Hawkeye sports.
