MASON CITY — A Mason City woman spotted her favorite number on a scratch ticket she purchased and won a $25,000 prize.

“I got five tickets,” Kathy Hage told officials on Wednesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s Mason City office. “I like the number 111 and noticed one of them was (ticket number) 111, so I scratched it, and that was the one.”

Hage, 68, won the 22nd top prize in the “Wild Bingo” scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Northside Liquor, 1303 N. Federal Ave. in Mason City, and scratched the ticket later at home.

“It was like, ‘No! No way!’ I looked again and again and again,” she recalled with a laugh.

She showed the ticket to her boyfriend but he was skeptical. So she scanned the ticket with the lottery’s mobile app, which confirmed her win.

Hage said that in the excitement surrounding her win, she hadn’t yet decided what she’d do with her winnings.

“I need a car, but I don’t know for sure,” she said. “I’ll start thinking about it when I actually see the check.”

Wild Bingo is a $2 scratch game that features 45 top prizes of $25,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.34.
