Clear Lake police nab suspect who allegedly vandalized “Main Street U.S.A.” sign

CLEAR LAKE – Clear Lake police say they have nabbed the suspect who allegedly recently vandalized the community’s “Main Street U.S.A.” sign.

On July 21, 2021, the Clear Lake Police Department charged 21-year-old Matthew Arthur, of Nora Springs, Iowa with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree for damage caused to the “Main Street U.S.A.” sign.

The sign was originally located at the corner of N. 8th Street and Main Avenue. The damage occurred during the early morning hours of July 3, 2021. The event was caught by Clear Lake City Hall security cameras and was posted on the police department’s Facebook Page. Investigators were able to locate the vehicle that Arthur got into to leave the scene and were then able to identify him. Arthur was a passenger in the SUV.
