UNI Track & Field closes out first day of competition at Drake Relays

DES MOINES – UNI track and field kicked off competition at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, with the distance carnival on Thursday.

In the men’s 800 meters, senior Zach Krogmann and junior Ben Daumueller both came within one second of their personal-bests, with Krogmann posting a time of 1:54.26 to finish 13th and Daumueller posting a time of 1:54.92 to finish 16th. Freshman Sydney Schaffer stopped the clock at 2:17.77 in the women’s 800 meters, placing 15th, with sophomore Noel James following close behind with a personal-best of 2:17.98 to place 16th.

Competition continues Friday afternoon. The university session’s field events will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s triple jump, while action on the track will start at 2:00 p.m. with the women’s 200 meters.
