CARBONDALE, IL – The UNI soccer team traveled to Illinois Sunday afternoon to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis. The Panthers kept things rolling to get their second win of the season.
“I was really impressed with our attitude in today’s game,” said head coach Bruce Erickson. “We played confident and got rewarded for finishing some great chances while also defending well and getting another shutout.”
In the first half, the Panthers offense was hot, scoring back to back goals in the 14th and 15th minute of play by Ashley Harrington and Allison Whitaker with Shelby Unruh tallying an assist. This did not end the scoring in the first half. Sophia Conant was able to net one in the 32nd minute leading to a 3-0 lead at the half.
The Panthers did not stop there. To start the second half, Lauren Heinsch found the net followed soon after by a Sandra Thiman goal assisted by Ashley Harrington. The Panthers were able to total 16 shots with 13 being on goal compared to the Salukis 1 shot on goal.
The Panthers are now 2-2-2 on the season.
