OBIT: Helen Marie Funk

Helen Marie Funk, 91, passed away March 5, 2021 at Arbor Terrace Memory Care in Rochester, MN after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. A private funeral service will take place Monday, March 15 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar with burial following at the Osage Cemetery.

Helen was born July 20, 1929 to Randall and Selma (Johnson) Perkins in Lyle, MN. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1947 and married Keith I. Funk on August 13, 1947. They shared their early years together in Austin, MN where Keith was a city fireman and Helen was a stay-at-home mom raising two daughters. They spent the last 28 years together retired on their farm in Osage, IA where they built their dream home together.

Helen was an extremely gifted artist and musician. She played piano by ear brilliantly and loved music. She developed her artistic skills by devoting many hours to them on the farm. She was an accomplished oil painter, wood carver, rosemaler and stained glass artist. Her many creations will be enjoyed by her surviving family members.

Helen is survived by her: two daughters, Marlene (Norman) Hopkins of Rochester, MN and Margaret (Loren) Brumm of Iowa City, IA; four grandchildren, Denise Hopkins of Rochester, MN, Chris (Julee) Sylvester of Blaine, MN, Maria (Pete Meilestrup) Brumm of Seattle, WA and Heathe (Steve) Green of Des Moines, IA; five great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, her parents and her brother, John.

Helen’s family wishes to thank Arbor Terrace and Season’s Hospice care workers for their compassionate care of our mother.
