JUCO Track & Field: NIACC’s Evans places 7th in weight throw at nationals

PITTSBURG, Kan. – NIACC sophomore Cinnamon Evans placed seventh in the weight throw on Friday at the NJCAA Division I national indoor track and field meet.

Evans, who is from Charles City, earned her seventh-place finish with a personal best toss of 14.34 meters (47 feet, 0 1/4 inches), which ranks fourth on the school’s all-time weight throw list.

Also for the Lady Trojans in the weight throw, NIACC’s Brenna Paulson was 13th with a personal best toss of 12.13 meters.

NIACC’s Sarah Bertry set the school record in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3 minutes, 6.16 seconds, which qualified her for Saturday’s finals with the seventh fastest qualifying time.

Bertry’s time of 3:06.16 narrowly broke the old school record held by Emma Davison, who ran 3:06.43 at the Minnesota State Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 8, 2020.
Saturday’s 1K finals are set for 3:35 p.m.

In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, NIACC’s Lynn Hoeft, who is from Charles City, placed 14th in a time of 10.68.
