College Volleyball: UNI beaten by Indiana State, 3-2

CEDAR FALLS – The UNI volleyball team fell to the Sycamores of Indiana State on Sunday afternoon 3-2, falling with set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 16-25, 5-15.

The Panthers and Sycamores traded leads early in the opening set. The Panthers scored 8 straight points midway through the set and moved out to a 19-11 lead and ended with a 25-15 set victory. UNI finished with 16 kills 2 blocks and 2 aces and recorded a .275 team hitting percentage.

A close set the Panthers and Sycamores saw ties at 12-12 and 17-17. The Panthers pulled ahead late in the set going on a 8-1 run to win 25-18. The Panthers recorded 17 kills, and 4 blocks with a .250 hitting percentage while holding the Sycamores to a .125 hitting percentage.

The Sycamores jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set. The Sycamores led 16-10 midway through the third set, hitting .318 with only 1 attack error. The Sycamores dominated the later part of the set to force a 4th set, winning the third 25-16. The Sycamore hit .333 with 12 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces. The Panthers totaled 12 kills with 2 blocks and 1 service ace while hitting .176.

Both teams traded leads through the start of the set but UNI managed to tie the set at 13-13. The Sycamores responded with 4 unanswered points to lead 17-13. The Sycamores again ran away late in the set, winning 25-16 to tie the match 2-2. The Panthers recorded 11 kills and 1 service ace while the Sycamores hit .250 with 11 kills 6 aces and 2 blocks.

The Sycamores got out to a fast start in the fifth set, leading 7-1. The Panthers were unable to slow down the Sycamores as they coasted to a 15-5 set victory. Uni finished the final set with 4 kills.


-UNI finished with 60 kills and .186 team hitting percentage.
-Tayler Alden finished with 44 assists, 21 digs and 7 kills. Alden had a team high .389 with 0 attack errors on the night.
-Inga Rotto recorded a team high 14 kills.
-Kaylissa Arndorfer had 12 kills and a team high 6 block assists.

-ISU finished with 49 kills and a .205 team hitting percentage.
-Mallory Keller recorded a team high 11 kills.
-Chloe Mason finished with 19 assists while Mary Hannah Lewis added 15 assists.

The Panthers and Sycamores will be back in action on Monday night. The two teams will play their second match at 5 pm on Monday night. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
