Karen L. Hurd, 74, of Mason City, passed away Sunday February 21, 2021 at Mercy One Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 26, 2021 at the Moose Lodge in Mason City.

Karen was born January 9, 1947 in Mason City, daughter of John C. and Shirley J. (Fletcher) Frank. She graduated from Mason City High School, Class of 1965.
Karen was united in marriage to John on March 17, 1970 in Sioux Falls, SD. And to this union two children were born. The two celebrated their fifty years together this past March with family.
Karen entered into the work force during high school and continued to work for Damon’s Department Store in Mason City until 1975. She was able to stay home and raise her children until their teen years. Karen then returned back to work for Jerry Theilen Insurance and worked there for twenty-five years. She then was able to work as a family babysitter and watch her grandchildren through the day.
She was an active member with her family. Karen was the one who would schedule the family gatherings, reunions, Christmas, and host all the birthdays at her home.
Karen looked forward to her trips with John that included visiting many different states. She enjoyed being a part of her children’s activities, and her grandchildren’s activities. Her grandbabies were her life and focus during her later years.
Karen is survived by her husband, John Hurd of Mason City; two children, Shannon Hurd of Mason City and Travis (Jessica) Hurd of Mason City; two grandchildren, Nolan and Madelyn Hurd; three siblings, Tom (Robee) Frank, Kathy (Greg) Keeling and Kristie (Mike) Stadtlander and many extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Shirley Frank.
