UNI volleyball defeats Southern Illinois, 3-0

CARBONDALE, Ill – The UNI volleyball team defeated Southern Illinois 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, defeating their MVC foe with set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-21.

The Panthers got out to an early lead in the opening set and ran away with a 25-18 set victory. UNI finished with 16 kills on 29 attacks for a .414 hitting percentage, the second highest team hitting percentage in a set this season. UNI added 4 service aces and 1 block in the first set.

The Panthers and Salukis battled through the second set with early lead changes in the set. The Salukis took a 21-20 lead late in the set. Following a Carly Spies kill, the Salukis proceeded to commit 4 consecutive attack errors to give the Panthers the 25-23 set victory. UNI finished with 11 kills on 30 attacks with 4 service aces and 2 blocks.

The Salukis moved ahead in the third set and extended the lead to four, leading 13-9 midway thought the set. The Panthers charged back and tied the set 15-15 following an Inga Rotto kill, Emily Holterhaus tied the set moments later at 16-16. The Panthers coasted to a 25-21 victory. UNI finished with 12 kills on 34 attacks and added 3 service aces and 2 blocks.

THE PANTHERS
UNI recorded 39 kills and a .258 hitting percentage.
UNI recorded 11 service aces.
Inga Rotto and Kaylissa Arndorfers finished with a team high 11.5 points.
Rotto recorded 11 kills with hitting .500
Tayler Alden finished with 36 assists in 3 sets.
Baylee Petersen finished with 13 digs and 1 kill.
Carly Spies added 6 kills with a team high 4 block assists.
Tayler Alden and Emily Holterhaus each finished with 4 service aces.
THE SALUKIS
SIU finished with 33 kills and hit .170 as a team.
Alex Washington and Tatum Tornatta finished with a team high 7 kills.
Rachel Maguire finished with a team high 27 assists.
Imani Hartfield recorded 6 kills on 10 swings for a team high .500 hitting percentage.
