RURAL MASON CITY – A Mason City woman was hurt in a single-vehicle crash Sunday.

On January 31, 2021 at about 12:02 PM, a 2011 White Chevrolet Impala driven by 22-year-old Austin Vanaukin of Mason City was involved in a traffic accident on Orchid Avenue just south of 330th Street. Vanaukin was driving south when his Impala crossed the center line and entered the east ditch. It then struck a road sign before hitting a tree by the Spring Creek bridge. Both occupants were wearing seat belts and the airbags did deploy. The passenger and owner of the vehicle is 20-year-old Destiny Robbins of Mason City. She was transported to Mercy ER by a family member for pain in the shoulder and stomach.

Vanaukin was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle and failure to prove security involving an accident.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mason City Fire Medics.
