Two teens dead, three hurt in Iowa auto collision Sunday evening

CHARITON, IOWA – Two teens were killed and three people hurt in an Iowa auto crash Sunday evening.

The accident took place in Chariton, Iowa, in Lucas county, southeast of Des Moines. At about 5:10 PM Sunday, November 22, a 2008 Ford F-250, driven by 55-year-old Shawn Blanchard of Des Moines, Iowa, was westbound on Highway 34 in Chariton. At the same time, a 1995 Jeep Wrangler driven by 18-year-old Blake Skinner of Corydon, Iowa, was eastbound on Highway 34 and attempting to turn north. The vehicles collided, ejecting all three teenage passengers from the Jeep. Skinner was flown to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with life-threatening injuries. Katilynn Spicer, age 15 of Des Moines and Chase Lavely, age 16 of Corydon were killed. Blanchard and his passenger, Angel Blanchard, suffered non life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
