MASON CITY – The Mason City school board will meet tonight and consider awarding the $23.9 million Fieldhouse and pool project at the High School to Henkel Construction.
The Mason City school boards scheduled to meet Monday night at 5:30 PM for a special session. Superintendent of School Dave Versteeg and Bergland + Cram representatives will provide the Board with additional information regarding the field house and natatorium project and the bid process.
After this update, the board will consider approving the the award of the $23,920,000 (twenty-three million nine hundred & twenty thousand dollars) project including alternates #2 & #9 to Henkel Construction of Mason City, Iowa, for construction of the Mason City Field House & Natatorium.
Due to COVID-19 the school district is offering public participation in our Board meetings by calling 641-450-5028 during the Open Forum agenda item.
I heard that the school district is broke, so broke they are cutting people and services cause they cant afford it, then to go spend that kind of money is just someones “pipe dream” that shouldn’t be done. pretty nice where they said the money is coming from so that a public vote to spend the money wasn’t needed cause they knew it wouldn’t pass. just wait a few yrs from now and hang onto your asses, your taxes are going to go up, way up to cover this big mistake.

Wherever the money is coming from, I would think it could be spent better elsewhere. They don’t teach swimming in school, and as a sport, it Is a joke, down the road of days gone by. Why can we not get school officials in Mason City that are honest and have some financial common sense. Instead we get thieves and foolish spenders.
If swimming is not going to be taught in gym class the pool should not be built.

Every state construction projects have been going at 101%. It’s the only income that is booming during these unprecedented times. And this Anita lady is or was a FRAUD. In charge of education and doing the wrong thing. Online schooling till the end of the year WAS the right move. Now the corona is rampantly spreading. Get that slick auditor Sands to oversee this project. 24 million at stake. These educated scammers need to be stopped.
Children learn absolutely nothing with online schooling. What a waste of time, effort and money. An entire generation is being robbed of their education. all because of some political, fear mongering propaganda.
You have no proof that on-line learning is useless. For some kids it is beneficial for others whose parents don’t care, it is of no benefit. Same with in person learning.

If you read the article, it states right at the beginning, without and time for planning or preparing, schools went on lockdown. So, our teachers were given no time to prepare lessons or plan for on-line learning, they were basically doing their best without any data, experience or assistance to help them. The results were bad but what else would you expect? Now,there has been at least a little time to prepare and plan. 99% of the teachers I know would tell you that face to face learning is the best way to learn. They want that type of school but they are willing to do their best to make on-line learning work. Without any help from the government.
