DES MOINES – The Newman Knights came up just short in their quest for a fourth-straight state title, dropping a very close 1A championship game 3-2 to Don Bosco.
Don Bosco took an early 1-0 lead after a 2-error play by Newman. Later, Newman went up 2-1 after a couple of hits and looked to be cruising along.
However, after a required Newman pitching change, Don Bosco scored twice in the bottom of the 6th inning to go up 3-2 and the lead held up. The Dons win their second state title.
