High School Baseball: Newman to play for fourth-straight state title

DES MOINES – Mason City Newman Catholic handed previously undefeated Remsen St.Mary’s its first loss of the season, 2-0 in 9 innings, to claim victory in a class 1A state baseball semifinal and advance for a shot at a fourth-straight state title.

Newman’s Max Burt scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning before the Knights added another insurance run.  Doug Taylor struck out three in the bottom half for the win. Remsen St.Mary ends its season at 20-1.

Newman (19-5) will play Don Bosco (19-1) for the state championship Saturday in Des Moines at Principle Park.  Game starts at 10:30 AM.
