OBIT: Kathleen Juanita Schilling, age 89

Kathleen Juanita Schilling, age 89, entered her heavenly home surround by her family, on June 23, 2020 in Charles City, Iowa.

The family of Kathleen extends an invitation to anyone who would like to attend her visitation on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home. Those in attendance will be asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to please wear a mask, thank you for your understanding. The funeral service will be for family only and be live streamed on the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Kathleen was born in Marble Rock, Iowa, the oldest of Gordon and Jennie Leota (Bailey) Rex’s five children. She graduated from Marble Rock High school with the class of 1949. On September 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Melvin Henry Schilling at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City. This union was blessed with two children, Rex and Melody.

Early in her life she worked at various cafes including Allen’s Café, Highway Café, Dairy Queen, Club Iowa, and Holiday Diner. She was always cooking and was the food service supervisor at Salsbury Baptist Home for many years until her retirement. Kathleen was always taking care of others. You were always welcome at Mel and Kathleen’s home, and Kathleen made sure you had something to eat. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed playing card and dice games with the grandchildren. She always made holidays at grandma’s house extra special.
Kathleen was involved in her community by volunteering in many capacities including: Meals on Wheels board, Hospital pink lady, Foster grandparent, Den mother for Cub Scouts, Treasure Chest, Family Council at Salsbury Baptist home, St. John Lutheran Church kitchen and youth groups.

She belonged to Wa-Tan-Ye, Women of the Moose, and Help-A-Neighbor clubs.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her children, Rex Schilling of Charles City and Melody Thompson (Mark) of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren, Heather Schilling, Jonathan Schilling of Charles City and Mallory Walhovd (Nathan) of Eau Claire, WI; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sisters, Fran Ritter of Mason City, Donna Kolbet of Osage, Connie Pitz of Walworth, WI; sister-in-law Betty Rex of Marble Rock; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin in 2013; and brother, James.

Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Charles City, Iowa.
