FORT DODGE – A teen was hurt in a shooting at a Fort Dodge park Wednesday, police say.
On Wednesday, June 17 at approximately 10:15 PM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received information regarding shots fired in the area of Loomis Park. Information indicated that several shots had been fired and a vehicle may have left the area. Officers arrived in the area and spoke to several individuals who indicated they had heard what may have been shots.
As officers examined the area, they located evidence of shots being fired in Loomis Park. As this was discovered, information developed that a vehicle had been shot at and was located near the intersection of 15th Avenue North and North 8th Street in Fort Dodge. Officers located this vehicle, which had sustained damage consistent with being struck by gunfire. At the time of the shooting, the vehicle was occupied, and a 17‐year‐old female sustained minor injuries from breaking glass.
Upon further investigation into this incident, it is believed that two groups of individuals were in the park when one group began firing at the other group as they drove away. We believe this is an isolated incident among those involved and have no information indicating any relation to the homicide investigation currently taking place. Investigators are continuing to follow up on this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fort Dodge Police Department.
Fort Dodge police continue to investigate the June 16 shooting that killed two men and injured two women. Police announced a $6,000 reward for information in the case that leads to the arrest and protection of the shooter.
