MASON CITY – Police in Mason City are seeking clues after reports of racially-charged vandalism in the downtown late Wednesday night into Thursday.
On the evening hours of June 3, 2020, and early morning hours of June 4, 2020, the Mason City Police Department received three reports of vandalism in downtown Mason City. The vandalism included the spray painting of racial slurs on commercial buildings. A sources tells NIT that a business on North Federal Avenue “had ‘die n———-‘ painted on it.”
Police asking anyone with information about these cases to contact MCPD Criminal Investigation Division Lieutenant Rich Jensen at 641-421-3636.
“This conduct is detrimental to the narrative that is currently taking place in our community. There is no place for it here,” Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley said. “We appreciate the community’s support in conveying that message and helping us to hold accountable those who are responsible for the damage.”

I remember an instance about 15 years ago in Mason City. A black man’s vehicle was vandalized and racial epitaphs spray painted all over it. He had someone do it so he could collect insurance on the vehicle which wasn’t operable anymore and would have cost too much to repair.

that reminds me of an incident that happened a few weeks ago in Des Moines. An African American reported that he had been beat up by a group of Caucasians, while he was walking down the street. of course there were no witnesses. possibly a drug deal gone bad with his homies, and the beating was to put him on notice. it was easier to blame someone else then to tell the truth.
