CEDAR RAPIDS – A man who distributed crack cocaine while on parole was sentenced on April 17, 2020, to more than four years in federal prison.
Kelshawn Markell Marshall, age 31, from Dubuque, Iowa, received the prison term after a November 4, 2019 guilty plea to one count of distribution of a controlled substance near a protected location.
In a plea agreement, Marshall admitted he sold crack cocaine on four different occasions, all of which occurred near Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Law enforcement then searched Marshall’s home. Officers found more crack cocaine during the search.
Marshall was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams. Marshall was sentenced to fifty-six months’ imprisonment. He must also serve a six-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Marshall is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards and investigated by the Dubuque Drug Task Force.
