Charles City man awaiting plea hearing for felony assault and domestic abuse arrested after another incident

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man awaiting a plea hearing for a felony assault and domestic abuse charge has been arrested after another incident.

On April 14, 2020 at 10:31 AM, officers with the Charles City police department responded to the 200 block of South Joslin Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. After an investigation, 25-year-old David Carothers of Charles City was arrested and charged with domestic assault – 2nd offense for an incident which occurred in the 1900 block of Owen Street earlier that day. Carothers was taken to the Floyd county jail and released by the next day. He awaits a preliminary hearing set for April 29.

On March 29, 2018, Carothers committed a domestic assault in Waterloo and was charged with domestic abuse assault – first offense. He was ordered to pay $6,413.10 in court costs, fines and fees; spent 4 days in jail (176 days suspended) and was put on probation until August of 2020. He awaits a probation revocation hearing set for June of this year. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest on April 16, 2020, records show.

On August 13, 2019, Carothers allegedly committed a domestic assault in Charles City and was charged with domestic abuse assault – second offense. He’s now awaiting a plea hearing set for May 19, 2020.

Carothers is still paying off fines and fees totaling $4,000.50 from his guilty plea to drunk driving in Floyd county back in July of 2016.
