CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man is facing another domestic abuse charge after a recent incident in town.
On March 30, 2020, the Charles City police department responded to a 911 hang-up coming from the area of the 2100 block of Clark Street. After an investigation, officers arrested 31-year-old Cortez Jones of Charles City for felony D third-offense domestic assault and obstruction of emergency communication.
Jones was taken to the Floyd county jail and quickly released, court records show. A no-contact order was established by a judge, and Jones is due in court for arraignment on April 28.
Back in 2016, in Floyd county district court, Jones received a deferred judgement for felony domestic abuse and was placed on probation. He faced a contempt charge as late as March 24, 2020, in that case; it was dismissed by judge Peter Newell that day.
In 2018, Jones was guilty of second-offense domestic abuse, again in Floyd county. He was given a year in jail with all but two days not suspended. A $625.00 fine was suspended. He was put on probation for two years. He is now facing a probation revocation hearing in May connected to this case, records show.
