UNI’s Sydney Eaton, from Mason City, named Missouri Valley Conference First Team Scholar Athlete

ST. LOUIS – UNI’s Hannah Bermel and Sydeny Eaton have been named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) First Team Scholar Athletes as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon. Bermel and Eaton have previously been named First Team Scholars Athletes in 2019.

Hannah Bermel (from Cedar Falls) won two tournaments during the fall season, winning the MVC Preview and the Creighton Classic in back to back weeks. Bermel also earned back to back MVC Golfer of the Week honors this fall. The junior finished the fall season with a 76.18 stroke average in eleven rounds. Bermel recorded ten of her eleven rounds in the seventies. Bermel has a 3.94 cumulative GPA while majoring in Communications Disorders.

Sydney Eaton, from Mason City

Sydney Eaton finished the fall season with a 77.45 stroke average. Eaton earned MVC Golfer of the Week for her performance at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational where she finished with a 217 (77-70-70). Eaton finished with eleven rounds this fall with seven in the seventies. Eaton has a 3.68 cumulative GPA while majoring in Biology.

The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team’s rounds.
