DES MOINES, IA — Iowa Forward Executive Director Emily Holley released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported a second week of record jobless claims this morning:
“The economic impact of the coronavirus crisis has become a harsh reality for the estimated 58,453 Iowans who filed for unemployment last week. While Representatives. Abby FInkenauer, Dave Loebsack, and Cindy Axne have shown their support for working families, Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley added insult to injury by voting to limit unemployment benefits, even as we experience record unemployment claims.
“Senator Ernst, in a press release from her office, touted the bolstered unemployment benefits contained within the coronavirus stimulus legislation, but failed to mention her vote against those same benefits.
“This is unacceptable. We expect our elected officials to put Iowa families first, but clearly Senators Ernst and Grassley are not getting the job done for us.”
Senators Ernst and Grassley voted to restrict unemployment benefits last week.
I read the bill, here is the scope: To ensure that additional unemployment benefits do not result in an individual receiving unemployment compensation that is more than the amount of wages the individual was earning prior to becoming unemployed.
For those liberals whom are indoctrinated, it simply( so you can understand) says they won’t give you more to not work, than to work.
This was rejected, those that say, “We expect our elected officials to put Iowa families first, but clearly Senators Ernst and Grassley are not getting the job done for us.” are POS liars.

Anyone else notice that most pictures of Republicans on this sire are usually less than flattering?
no
Like most right wing politicians, they are only interested in kissing up to big money and big business. To hell with the working people.
“This is unacceptable. We expect our elected officials to put Iowa families first, but clearly Senators Ernst and Grassley are not getting the job done for us.”
Yeah, well I call bullshit Ms. Holley. If putting Iowans first also included benefits for the “undocumented” workers in this country, then I support Sens. Grassley and Ernst’s decision. I’m tired of the democrats putting illegals ahead on US citizens.
If, if and if. “If” the bills does this, that, the other. Any proof the bill favors illegals? Who wants anything to favor illegals? It’s just a lame argument, to me. I’m more concerned American citizens won’t get their due. And in this America, that seems to the norm.
