MASON CITY – There was a shooting on Mason City’s North End Monday and police believe a person was shot as they later arrested a man who returned to the scene of the alleged crime.
Mason City police officers responded to the 1700 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before noon Monday on a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. Officers recovered evidence from the scene that indicated that a gun had been fired and it’s believed that a man was shot during the disturbance but left the area before officers arrived.
Later that day, at 3:11 p.m., officers responded to the same neighborhood on a report of suspicious activity. A vehicle that was seen leaving the area was stopped by officers and two men were detained.
The passenger of the vehicle; Derrick Norfleet Young (24) of Mason City was charged with Intimidation with a dangerous weapon; a class C felony, as a result of the investigation into the earlier shooting. No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle.
The victim of today’s shooting has not been located and the case is still under investigation.
The driver wasn’t arrested on anything, the other guy SHOT someone and no attempted murder charges? Wth???

It would be really nice if our local news and social media news wanna be outlets would let the public know when these things are actually happening so we could stay in our homes. Instead of claiming they cant discuss ongoing investigations. What’s to investigate? As usual black males are shooting at eachother over something dumb like ugly fat white woman and or drugs. The rest of us deserve to and have the right to be safe and part of that is being aware that an active situation is taking place and where. This has been a steady occurrence for young black men in this area, time to pull the section 8 vouchers and let them kill eachother in the streets. This winter has been rough, I predict black male violence is going to continue to rise as the temps do. It’s sad that mason city is going to turn into an even worse more violent and drug infested rat hole. Also I think this pos lives down the street from me and im sure glad his worthless ass is locked up. Than again there are so many of them with the same braids they all look the same. I don’t pretend to know what’s the solution to this mess, but everybody needs to watch and read everything they can find from Colin Flaherty. He doesn’t tell any lies..he just chronicles true accounts of Black, violent crimes. Crimes that are several times more common than from any other race. It’s a disturbing truth. He has written a couple books and he is all over Youtube so he is not hard to find. Colin’s books are ten times scarier than anything Stephen King ever wrote because they are all 100% true.
Yes because that’s all he focuses on is black crime. Nothing on successful black race or number comparison of crime vs good black race. I would be the numbers even out or more for White junkies and white meth population and crimes/theft to feed their habit. Times are changing. We are becoming a white junkie race no better. Just saying don’t pretend it’s just the black race that are criminals. Some bad and some targeted and in jail for crimes they didn’t commit. Don’t respond if your opinion is that it doesn’t happen. I am white professional and have seen it with my own eyes. Yes I know there are black criminals. Higher rated of black criminals in some areas. But there are successful black race but no one ever studies those numbers. I also am aware that their are more white criminals but not counted in.. drugs, theft, stabbings, shootings but also for whites is white collar crimes at an unacceptable high number. But we like to play the white race we are , are better and our crimes aren’t as “bad” and don’t count. Open your eyes the zombie tv shows are real, just white junkie meth heads wandering around stealing all they can to feed their habit. Wait and see what the white race is in 3-5 years in Mason City!!
One would think that if you are a “white professional” you would be able to articulate better.
“white collar crimes at an unacceptable high number” … the truth is, white collar crime is acceptable by society as the perps get away with it most of the time or get light punishment. But if that same perp picks up a stick of gum from the corner booze mart and leave without paying, there will be 3-5 squad cars filled with officers with itchy trigger fingers seeking them out right quick. And justice will be swift and firm.
