WEST DES MOINES – An Iowa woman has been jailed on murder charges after her husband was bound and killed.
On Saturday, February 15, 2020 around 6:45 PM a 911 call was received in reference to an unconscious person at 8350 EP True Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa. West Des Moines EMS, Fire, and Police responded to find the 911 caller, Gowun Park, performing CPR on her husband, 41-year-old Sung Nam. Nam was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
West Des Moines Police began an investigation into the death. Reportedly, Nam was bound to a chair.
On February 19th, Park was arrested at the West Des Moines Police Department without incident. She has been charged with Murder 1st Degree and Kidnapping 1st Degree. She has been transported to the Dallas County Jail.
Police say their investigation is ongoing but there is no indication of any continuing danger to the community. Because the investigation is still open, no additional information will be released at this time.
According to court documents, Park told police she bound Nam’s hands and feet with zip ties and a rope to a chair and stuffed an item of clothing in his mouth, covered with duct tape.
Park is an Assistant Professor of Economics professor at Simpson College and has suspended from her job.
