OBIT: Glendola “Dodie” De Walle, 92, formerly of Charles City

Glendola “Dodie” De Walle, 92, of Des Moines, formally of Charles City and Norwalk, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center in Des Moines.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Dodie De Walle will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Gary Mayer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Glendola “Dodie” Mae De Walle, the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Hess) Cross, was born on May 21, 1927 in Charles City, Iowa. She attended school in Charles City. On August 8, 1949, Dodie was united in marriage to Otto A. De Walle, Jr at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville, Iowa.

Dodie worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone, Morton Buildings and for several local restaurants as a waitress. She volunteered as a foster grandparent for Charles City Public Schools. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and watching game shows. She moved to Regency Assisted Living in Norwalk in 2014 to be near her daughter, son-in-law and their family. Dodie loved her family and delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include daughter and son-in-law, Sandy & Bob Lauen of Indianola; granddaughter, Kimberly (Erik) Dorenkamp of Norwalk; grandson, Nicholas A. Lauen of Chicago; five great grandchildren: Ethan Dorenkamp, Megan Dorenkamp, Teegan Dorenkamp, Josilan Dorenkamp all of Norwalk, and Dallaire Lauen of Chicago; sister, Elaine Cross of Rio Rico, Arizona; and several nieces, nephews, and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto De Walle, Jr on August 25, 2004; siblings: Lila Cline, LaVonna Knight, Shirley Mennis, Emma (Jo) Broderick, Harvey Cross, Wendell Cross, Marlys Young, and Lorraine Eytcheson; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Lampman; and brother-in-law, Francis De Walle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
